ABOUT KALITA VINEYARD

Kalita Vineyard is located in the heart of the Yamhill-Carlton AVA and exhibits all of the characteristics of this viticultural district. The site’s most unique feature is its bowl-shape which provides winemakers with the option to select grapes grown on hillsides facing South, Southwest or Southeast and with elevations ranging from 400 to 800 feet. The soil is classic WillaKenzie soil, which drains quickly and shows very low vigor, requiring the vines to send deep roots for nutrients. The flavors of Kalita Vineyard Pinot Noirs are typical of the Yamhill-Carlton AVA and the terroir of the site – black cherries and blackberries.

See Visiting Media for a 360 degree tour of the vineyard.

ET FILLE KALITA VINEYARD 2008
WINE SPECTATOR "2008 OREGON PINOT NOIR RETROSPECTIVE"

The Kalita Vineyard is located in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA. Showing less new French oak than most other Panther Creek wines, this begins with bright red fruit aromatics with a touch of blood orange that rounds out the nose. There is a beautiful astringency to this wine, which reveals medium weight fruit of red currant, red cherry preserves, and a touch of Asian spice. Balanced and highly poised, enjoy this outstanding wine over the next decade or so. —O. Bargreen

WINE SPECTATOR

Tony Rynders furthers his efforts to return this historic Oregon brand to prominence with this vibrant Pinot Noir from Arthur Kalita’s vineyard, a 22-acre site established near Yamhill in 1998 that counts a number of the Willamette Valley’s top wineries as client. The juice spent just eight months in 42% new French oak, allowing for aromas boysenberry, Montmorency cherry and plum with a pinch of mulling spices. Black cherry and dark currant flavors lead to a delicious finishing squirt of golden raspberry. Suggested pairings include salmon with a berry compote or accompanied by sweet onions, fennel and chanterelles.

Pinot Noir from Arthur and Sherry Kalita’s arena-like vineyard continues to excel in the hands of the father-daughter team of Howard Mozeico and Jessica Mozeico, who have been crafting stunning wines off this site since 2004. It begins with aromas of blackberry milkshake, black cherry, toasted cocoa nibs, caramel corn and minerality. The drink is plush with dark plum and ripe strawberry flavors as modest tannins lead to a bold finish of bittersweet chocolate. Traditionally, they suggest pairing their Pinot Noir from this site with filet mignon, cocoa-rubbed short ribs or Beef Bourguignon. Arthur and Sherry Kalita planted their 22 acres of Pommard and Wadensvil clones in Willakenzie soils near famed Shea Vineyard, and their Pinot Noir has been featured by some cult producers for nearly a decade. Placed in the skilled hands of Tony Rynders, this bottling builds aromas of dark cherry and blackberry with touches of mocha and tarragon. The silky entry of Marionberry, raspberry and blueberry flavors slowly builds with rich tannins and picks up hints of moist earth and black truffle. THE EAST HAMPTON STAR

Wainscott

Chimene Macnaughton, the manager of Wainscott Main Wines and Spirits, reported that a woman came into the store on Nov. 24 and began walking around, looking at wines. Ms. Macnaughton stepped away from the counter, and when she returned, the woman was gone, as was a bottle of Et Fille Kalita Vineyard Pinot Noir, priced at $55. The store’s surveillance camera captured the woman’s image, however, and Ms. Macnaughton turned the video over to police, who are investigating.
